Every winter, as snow blankets the town and surrounding hills, Leavenworth transforms into a magical wonderland perfect for families, friends, and kids at heart to experience the thrill of racing down snowy slopes. One of the most popular sledding spots in town is Front Street Park, right in the heart of downtown with a small hill suitable for younger children. The Leavenworth Winter Sports Club operates a tubing hill just outside of town, and while it costs money to use the tubing hill, they provide the tubes. Leavenworth typically has snow during the later half of December through February, however it's best to check the webcams to ensure there is enough snow.
While Leavenworth is located on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains and typically has colder temperatures and drier snow, you will still want to ensure you have the proper type of sled. Sleds are available for rent at the golf course, but not at the front street park. Plastic sleds are often the best bet, although inflatable tubes can work as well. Avoid sleds with metal runners or blades, as the snow often isn't compact enough and the sleds may struggle to glide downhill, plus the metal runners can be a safety concern and are not allowed at sledding hills in Leavenworth.
